Knock ,Knock, Knockin' on Someone's Door

The last time I was out canvassing in a Presidential campaign was 1976; the candidate? - Peter Camejo of the Socialist Workers Party! Ah, Youth! After a 28 year lull, here I am again, tramping the streets of Toledo for Obama.

I'd forgotten the thing I'd most hated about canvassing: the snarling dog held back by its owner at the front door, ready to pounce. Someone tells me she's from Chicago and thinks Ohio's too green to vote for. So you're a global warming skeptic?, I respond. Not even a smile. Next house. Yes, we can!

ahem... "she thinks OBAMA's too green to vote for<" that should have been.

Todd Spivak seems to agree.

It sure was a depressing night for us Ohio-area Obama-nauts. I was a precinct captain here in Bowling Green, all that running through the sleet for nothing...

BTW Dr. Quinn, I'm an ACS PhD here at BGSU. I'd like to wrap my head around some economics besides Marx. I've been enjoying your work on this blog. Could you recommend any good intro economics readings?

Andy, come by my office M_W_F 3:30 to 5:30. I can give you the syllabus I used when I gave an joint ACS/Econ course called *Economics and Culture*. The single best economics book for an American Culture Studies student, IMHO, is Veblen's *Theory of the Leisure Class*. Very few economists read it - more's the pity!

Also Andy, it may be that we (Ohio Obamans)'ll have a chance to work in Michigan, if there's a do-over up there.
